TO TRACY, AS YOU ENTER THE ARMY…
You’re ready now to try your wings;
To fly high and see wondrous things.
You’ll think this is your freedom’s birth.
Just don’t stray too far from the earth.
Don’t try to make yourself too tall
Or you might have a ways to fall.
You’re gonna stand on your own two feet
Places you’ll go and people you’ll meet.
Life is full of ups and downs,
A roller coaster full of clowns.
You’ll have some good times and some blues.
Then, later on, you’ll have great news.
You’ll meet success along the way.
And know then now what we’re trying to say.
Even though you’ll be on your own,
Don’t get too far from a phone.
We remember your first words way back then
And all of a sudden you were nine then ten.
Now I see you, and do you know,
I see myself twenty years ago.
Thinking of those times to be had
And reading words of wisdom from my dad;
We’ll wait now for your first note sonny.
“Dear mom and dad… please send money.”
Best of luck always!
Dad
