LIBERTY ~ 1776-2009 ~ R.I.P.

Down it came without a sound
To wither there upon the ground
Like the storied forest and its falling tree
So went the death of liberty

To lay there in decay and rot
Its glory days too soon forgot
Gone the strength of limbs and cool of shade
From which the many leaves was made

What felled the thing once treasured high
For what nations covet and good men die?
Did it lose its luster, become too old
Or grow too heavy for us to hold?

Help me understand how it just… went away
How it happened that we woke up without it today
Could it be that so few were willing to serve
That what we got was what we deserve?

Perhaps this epitaph won’t have to be wrote
With measured hands and hearts along with valued vote
Combined with prayer and hope, may there always be just enough
Of peace minded patriots… yet army strong and jarhead tough!

Rambling thoughts? Yes sure, but there’s one thing that’s fact
There is always an attached price tag to keep freedom intact
So just do what you can do my friends or be what you can be
It starts with a whole lot more of ‘us’ and a little less of ‘me’

Author’s Note: God bless America and those few who are bearing the burden for many long and hard miles… and also to those who stand with her without staring at her warts… a sharp salute to you all!
