CIVILIAN
Perhaps the bridge you built my friend
Is stronger than you know
It’s been through flood from end to end
Through the windstorm’s mighty blow
Could it be as you were busied there,
That you didn’t see or realize
The span of bricks and mortar being prepared
There on the other side?
Now lift your gaze and head my friend
To that bridge that’s bruised and sore
The work’s long done and at an end
We stand together here on the same shore
So wipe the sweat and tears away
Warm yourself at the familiar fire
It’s where we belong you know Ms. Faye
Here and safe inside the wire!
