Janet Rattay: Immaculate Heart Of Mary Church At Christmas

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at Christmas
Pittsburgh, PA

This photograph cannot capture the beauty of my church. The picture shows the main altar and two smaller altars, one on either side. There are a total of eight altars in the church, which is an historic landmark built by many of the neighborhood's ancestors. It is a Polish church in which Sunday Mass is in the Polish language and many Polish songs are sung, especially the Christmas Carols which is known as Kolendy. People come from far and near to take in it's splendor.

IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CHURCH AT CHRISTMAS

Such a magnificent sight to behold
Story of Christmas to my eyes unfold

Grandeur hardly expressed by line
Splendor of heaven surely divine

It's quiet upon entering in
All are welcome, come free your sin

Dancing flames and candle glows
The smell of wax alights your nose

Stately trees bedecked with lights
Starry twinkles shine so bright

Snow and icicles gently rest
Upon the branches, winter's guests

Reminding us of that wintry blight
When Christ was born on Christmas night

The manger poor but rich in sight
Mary, Joseph, in the babe delight

Angels protect the Child so dear
Heavenly hosts to all revere

Shepherds watch in wonder too
Adoring love for one so new

Majestic kings take their place
Bringing gifts their love embrace

Quietly kneel in awe and pray
For peace to come this very day

Lay your troubles at the stable
Life's misgivings if you are able

Leave refreshed to start anew
For He forgives and loves you true
