VETERANS DAY PARADE

This city tried to cancel
The Veterans Day parade
Can you imagine what this would do
To the veterans for all they gave?

How can anyone equate this parade
With others that did not take place
The Great Race and the Marathons
Veterans Day would be a disgrace.

It seems the city’s run out of money
How could that be true
We build new football, baseball fields
Cost millions to name a few.

City workers and the police
Have been furloughed for a time
People the city really needs the most
To take the bite out of crime.

Citizens want to impeach the mayor
City council is in a huff
Who is to blame for this ordeal
I cannot assume enough.

We pay our taxes faithfully
It makes me so darn mad
To read this in the daily paper
How did things ever get this bad?

Especially when our youth is
At war in Iraq and Afghanistan today
You think Veterans Day would take precedence
After all they kept us from harm’s way.

Would it take a catastrophe in our city
To bring everyone to their knees
We must always honor the veterans
For without them we would not be free.
