TOO MUCH RAIN

Feeling a bit down today
maybe it’s because there’s been
too much rain falling lately
turning somber moods into thinking
and remembering.

There’s a cloud over the buildings
where the POW flag flies instilling
a feeling of disheartenment while we
listen to speeches and applaud the
orator for promises to be consummated.

“You Are Not Forgotten”
mere words printed to conceal
perhaps betrayal and abandonment
by men who sleep at night and dream
of faceless demons.

Downtrodden silhouette
framing the portrait of spirits
surviving in our being and not
wanting to accept the unacceptable
and the finality of demise.

Sincerity brings respite
in the name of Vietnam Veteran
determined ambassadors vowing
never to forget their own
“brothers” ‘till the end of time.
