A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN

Heard it on the news today
Soldiers removed from harm’s way.

Been granted a two-week leave
A boost in morale they’re led to believe.

One in particular touched my heart
He’s been in Iraq since the very start.

A new baby girl greeted him home
An anniversary with his wife sets the tone.

Families and soldiers find a little bit of heaven
Bravery speaks for their hearts to leaven.

How short those fourteen days must seem
Returning soldiers to where they’ve been.

So difficult it must be to leave the second time
Courage and stamina the soldier must find.

To put all behind him and return to the land
Terrorists, bombings, war of the sand.

Thoughts and daily prayers attend you
God speed your homecoming to see you through.
