I’M THANKFUL
Someone just asked me, “What are you thankful for?
The economy’s tanking and our country’s at war.
Banks are foreclosing on people’s hard earned dreams,
There’s killing in schools and folks are just plain mean!”
I thought long and hard before I could reply,
With tears welling up, I looked in her eyes.
“My life has been blessed much more than you’ll know,
Walk with me gently and allow me to show.
I’m thankful for Creator who died for my sins,
For this land we call home and the brave ones who defend.
Each night in my prayers I give thanks for a man,
Who loves me in spite of what husbands can’t understand.
Our house is much more than plaster and nails,
If these walls could converse, the stories they’d tell.
Our children are rainbows and the most beautiful flowers,
Gifts of God’s ‘bounty’, these darlings of ours.
I’m thankful that God thought enough of our son,
To send special Angels for that long journey home.
Our years haven’t been easy. We’ve faced many trials,
With each stormy season, we cried through the smiles.
Some call us poor folks; believe me that’s fine,
Our riches are found between moments in time.
I’m thankful to share this piece of my heart,
Hoping for peace when your days turn to dark.
If I had to select my best ‘gratitude’,
It’s each beat of this heart that’s battered and bruised.
For, each beat is a memory of the joy and the pain,
Reflections of moonbeams while I danced in the rain.
