We’ve all heard the stories of miraculous times,
Folks who cheat death with no reason or rhyme.
For those who believe, when our work is done,
God stands ever ready to welcome us home.

Paul Brondhaver grew up like most of us do,
The exception with Paul is what he’s been through;
Serving and giving – his motto and creed,
Dedicating his life to help others in need.

He signed up with the Army in the National Guard,
A long road to follow, both uphill and hard.
With high school behind him, to college he goes,
The spirit of commitment runs deep in his soul.

For twenty-two years Paul gives us his all,
Never declining when his Country called.
Traveling the world to help where he could,
Paul lived through the bad and left so much good.

Wherever he went, the kids caught his heart,
Lending his arms to give a fresh start.
Paul worked to build a community center,
Blessing the lives of all those who’d enter.

The 216th Combat Engineer Battalion heads to Iraq,
Patrolling the sands while fending off attacks.
Paul felt the need to help innocent kids,
He’ll long be remembered for the great things he did.

July is hot and their missions are long,
With conviction and courage, their faith keeps them strong.
The enemy strikes, one Soldier lies dead,
A difficult time of healing lies ahead.

Paul’s body is riddled with 300 holes,
What hurts him more is the pain in his soul.
The doctors perform miracles and one day he’ll heal,
A testament of protection from God’s Mighty Shield.
