ADAM’S WINDING ROAD

LCpl Adam Van AlstineSometimes in life it’s hard to understand,
The long, winding road that changes a man.
Good times he’ll know, hanging out with his friends;
Pitfalls and rebellions he’ll work to amend.
Adam Van Alstine has walked such a path;
The man he became was because of the bad.
Before he was born, his dad passed away,
A mother now works to not let life make him stray.
Adam loved boxing; he learned through the years,
As Chuck Horton coached him to face childhood fears.
A fisherman, a hunter, he loved the outdoors;
Skills with a rifle will prepare him for war.
Adam is a good kid with two sisters and a brother,
Each child must now deal with the loss of their mother.
Just before Adam graduated from Superior High School,
His mom passed away now each child must choose.
His life would begin when he joined the Marines,
Realizing his goals and living his childhood dreams.
Adam trained well and soon heads to the sand,
With his buddies beside him, he defends his homeland.
Adam came home to visit with family and friends,
None of us knew his life would soon end.
As he talks of his service, we hear pride in his voice,
Tattoos compared with his ‘East End Boys.’
A Soldier returns to serve in Iraq,
Outside of Ramadi, the enemy attacked.
With his patriotic duty, Adam paid the high price;
He honored his Country as he surrendered his life.
His parents stood waiting at Heaven’s great door,
With all of our Heroes who have gone on before:
“Welcome home son, we want you to know,
God led you to Heaven on His winding road.”
