Richard D. Preston: Rolling Stone

ROLLING STONE

You sure took your chance when you married this man
No sense of direction, no permanent plan
With a heart born to wander, no roots or a home
Moss never gathers on a rolling stone.

If you're gonna be a rambler you gotta pay what you owe
And you can't always get by on what you think you may know
'Cause what you know ain't enough when a pot's all your own
Moss never gathers on a rolling stone.

If we had as much money as interstate miles
We'd be riding high and livin' in style
But all we have to our name is this old pickup truck
Held together by wire and a whole lot of love

If you're gonna be a rambler you gotta pay what you owe
And you can't always get by on what you think you may know
'Cause what you know ain't enough when a pot's all your own
Moss never gathers on a rolling stone.

Yeah, moss never gathers on a rolling stone...

Author’s Note: There's a story behind most of the stuff I write. This one being that since 1968 after getting out of the Corps I have had a hell of a time dropping anchor. My wife and my kids could testify to that. It's not so bad now but the urge to wander is always there.
