THE MAN IN BLACK
His passing draws to close another time in my past. “My Dad” He loved all of his songs and many times after a little to much Shine he would stand on the porch of our cabin in the Ozarks and sing at the top of his lungs Johnny’s songs. My Dad passed away in 71 but when ever I heard Johnny Cash sing I could hear my Dad’s voice bouncing back off the Ozark hills. My Dad was saved before he died and tried to tell me all about his Lord…It wasn’t my time and I pushed it away. I didn’t come to know the Lord for another 9 years. I believe in my heart after Johnny gets settled and does the things we all want to do when we first go to be with the Lord, my Dad will be looking him up. So Dad sings “Oh How I Love Jesus” with Johnny and “I will see ya when He calls me home…”
Yes Dad grew up one of many and was asked to leave at the age of 13; too many mouths to feed. He was a muleskinner among many other things and I think that is way Johnny’s songs spoke to him. It was not an easy life but it made him strong in a lot of ways. He could build almost anything he wanted and new how to hunt and fish to live. Of course making his own shine got him real close to the law a few times. :O) He loved to play the fiddle and could dance me into the ground.
