TEARS OF A CHILD

A PS2, a computer game
life turned real, no longer pretend;
we teach love thy neighbor
of friendship and friends

We teach them of love
in churches and schools
we teach right from wrong
about following the rules

We teach them to be strong
not to be weak
walk away from violence
turn the other cheek

What must a child think
what goes through their minds
as neighbors from afar
commit this terrible crime

Moms, Dad, Brothers, Sisters
perished now gone
our teachings
were they so wrong

We must explain
they must cope
sometimes a cruel world
but there is still hope

Their tears of compassion
their small aching hearts
crying out feelings
as their friends depart

As they face this reality,
each and every day
it will be the children
who are so brave
