GOING HOME

This Soldier
Heading home this day
left a boy now a man
survived in a violent land

This Soldier
Heading home this day
a different view out this window pane
knowing life will never be the same

This Soldier
Heading home this day
Aftershocks settle from the past year
as flag draped coffins fill the rear

This Soldier
Heading home this day
as buddies remain, completing their tour
giving their all inside hells door

This Soldier
Heading home this day
quietly sitting not much to say
entering the clouds, flying away

This Soldier
Heading home this day
Saying prayers for those left behind
keep them safe these days and times

This Soldier
Heading home this day
Happy but sad, feeling safe and free
knowing others will die for me

This Soldier
Heading home this day
Fought in battle, have taken life
somehow leaving does not seem right

This Soldier
Heading home this day
Part of me will always be there
always will have that... thousand yard stare
