LAURA PONTICELLO
A HEART SHATTERS
My mind races to a day
that I walk upon the earth
penetrating the soil
inch by inch with my worn boot
Silence transcends like a frozen pond
ice hits my boot and my ankle cracks
shock rattles my heart like a bolt of magnesium
An explosion roars like thunder
my pulse leaps into the sky
perspiration drips into the oasis of my heart
I fall into a place of lost recovery
fighting for freedom of the unknown cause
a freedom which drives one to question
existence in the world
Struggling to fight ahead
my body twists and turns
racing a thousand miles a minute
my heart grasps for a breath of life
Life flows through my being
like a racing tiger across the desert
for one never appreciates life until
death stands at one's foot
