AUSTRALIAN SENSES

The scent of eucalyptus and the exquisite fragrance of the wattle and flowering gums, the unique beauty of the Sturt Desert Pea and the stumpy hardiness of the Mulga bush; the majestic stature of the mountain gum, the lonely beauty of the ghost gum, and the straggly determination of the mallee scrub; these have a dizzying effect on the senses of the unwary and the uninitiated.

The grey greens and blue greens, the purple mountains and the vast red desert; these are as much part of my home as the roses and lilies and geraniums that suddenly provide a splash of colour to Australia’s uniquely unexpected colours – colours that cannot be described because they change with the light, and with the season, and with the age of the witness and the age of the day.

My Australia!
