MY FRIEND
What words can best describe my friend?
The dictionary holds but very few.
Devoted is not quite good enough,
And loyal by itself just will not do.
He who has friends is truly blest,
And fortune smiles if they can be called fast.
But some are only there when the weather's fair,
And not too many can be said to last.
A friend is real when he shares your fate,
And stays with you through storm or sun.
Mine is ever there through the good or bad,
Still at my side when day is done.
He most patiently waits for my return,
Those times when I have to be away.
Then he greets me with such boundless joy,
Never will he ever think to stray.
In his soulful eyes, I read his every thought;
Our friendship needs no words, no phrase.
But if he could speak, I know he'd say:
"I'm your friend for now and for all your days."
He makes but few demands; he has no regrets,
And will be here, with me, until the end.
There's a special place in heaven, I know,
For my faithful, true... four-footed friend
