BLESSED
I just want you to know I'm not stupid
And I have feelings just like you.
It may not show on the outside
But, what I am telling you is true.
Although I may talk differently than you
And sometimes you can't understand my words,
I know when you are laughing at me
And believe me it really hurts.
But, I understand your confusion
That our differences have made you afraid...
That the way I talk, walk and move
Leaves you not knowing how to behave.
My personal goal is to teach you
And all the others who do not know
That my disability is not a tragedy
In fact, it has helped me to grow.
I have grown in the knowledge
That I have very loving friends
And the incredible support of my family
Spurring me on through thick and thin.
I can do almost anything I desire
Despite the limits of my birth defect
With the help of God and Science
And loving arms around my neck.
I like to listen to good music
Watch basketball and read books
Play on the computer (when my folks let me)
And make Mom laugh while she cooks.
I have many personal goals
Opportunities for happiness and success
I can't wait to go to college
I am a human being who is richly blessed.
While obviously I have a disability,
Others can still learn a lot from me
Like how to have compassion
For those who laugh at people like me.
