WITHOUT A TREE

Where would we be
without a tree
To shade us from the sun;
To drop new seeds upon the ground
for ages yet to come?

Where would we be
without a tree
To give the birds a home;
To fill the forests of the world;
to guard the fertile loam?

Where would we be
without a tree
To give us air to breathe;
To bear the fruit we so enjoy
or a place to dream beneath?

Where would we be
without a tree?
To question is to care.
To know the answer is the key
to making man aware.
