THE REAL ENEMY

Ah, oui! Time then must be the enemy
Of those endeavors left undone
Tick, tick, tick… the seconds beat
An unsympathetic rhythm on the drum

Oh, feel the crushing urgency
To finish living before death
But, alas, the real emergency
Will surge in one last breath

To deny time’s bite is a saving grace
Lest insanity be the ultimate cure
Like a feline racing, tail-to-face
Frantically chasing an elusive lure
