If you go first, I will cry
both tears of joy and pain,
knowing that you’re with God,
with eternal life the gain,
as I remain here longing
to see your precious face,
feel your touch, hear your voice
lifted in song of a better place.

I’ll envy you, how brave you’ll be
as you breathe your valiant last
here in this physical realm
where there’s nothing but the past,
rode hard and often regretted,
feared but treasured so…
sweeter for having loved you
