A PERFECT SPRING MORNING
A perfect spring morning, and my attention turns
to a robin slowly pecking holes in the lawn;
her beak retrieving a reluctant wriggling worm.
Oblivious to the pair of chattering squirrels
scratching their way to the top of a pine,
the pacified bird seems at peace with the world.
Ahh, life should be just that simple, I muse,
waking up at daybreak, enjoying fresh food,
a nice cool drink and full-bellied nap at noon.
I step a wee bit closer, moving really slow,
then, trying my best not to frighten her away,
I grab her and eat her. Meow!! What a day!
