AN EMPTY SHOE

When I found a dead mans shoe I thought which side was he on.
The town was burnt down and all of its occupants had gone.

There had been a bloodbath in this place I was walking through.
All that was left was a dead mans shoe no match for the two.
Somebody must have worn it once; but the question is who?
When a soldier has to do what a soldier has to do,
Sometimes a soldier has to die,
Yes it's sad but it's true.

On a empty street some the buildings are still smoking,
Shackled to the sky was that past incident evoking.

To the memory of a hero is a dead mans shoe.
Tell me what side he was on and does it matter to you.
