THE END OF OUR AGE
I accuse you writers and poets.
Human failures have pushed up
mountains, more than has been
described in your glossy pop volumes.
We forever juggle all the world’s
hopes, yet cannot fulfill them.
Other life-forms focus on the
bottom of the pyramid,
eating and reproducing, while
we struggle with the intellect.
I apologize we have failed
to do more with it and
report back success or even
progress. Lesser creatures wait
to extinction for solutions
that never come.
Let – me – hear – us – say – it:
“We give up, let some
other damn species try!”

Webmaster’s Note: This poem was prompted by a message by Colin F. Jones: poet extraordinaire who, on November 15, 2010, wrote:
“I have decided that I am not going to write any more poetry. Most of what I write is rubbish anyway. It will allow Tony to conclude my disk as a “complete works”, and me more time to do something else.
I thank all those who have provided the inspiration, the comments and the encouragement, but I leave it to you ‘real writers’, now to confound the world with your impudence. Thank you: I love all of you.”
