28 MAY 82
Determined, set faced.
They passed me by.
Marines!
This bad feeling,
'H', dead.
We'd not go lightly.
Resigned,
He fed the mag, another round.
Come the sweet dawn.

Author’s Note: Until you have had the ground beneath your feet disappear; seen the sky turn black and shower you with molten metal fragments, you'll never know how precious the morning can be for men at war. I pray you never have to share the moment. We had just taken Darwin Hill and the battle for Goosegreen still raged. Colonel H Jones' body lay with the other dead at the foot of the hill. We received some reinforcements by way of a blowpipe troop from the Royal Marines. It was not what we expected, and they didn't look all that chuffed either!!!
