HE WALKED!

He walked…
through the green dripping morass of vegetation

He walked…
as though in a dream his eyes on the troop in front

He walked…
without knowing where they were going and caring less

He walked…
in that foreign land for reasons that were foreign to him

He walked…
as he was expected to, moving out, following orders

He walked…
without focus, for his mind was on his home and girl

He walked…
Smiling as a double digit igit with a single digit fidget

He walked…
not knowing this was the best, the highlight of his life

He walked…
toward a future where, at 60, he will remember being able to walk.
