TERESA T. LIAO
TOO HUNGRY TO FIGHT
Babies suppressing their hunger,
agony invading their core.
Who says it is easier to be younger?
Mothers, their hair asunder
their breasts, barren and sore.
Babies suppressing their hunger.
Their cries, the sound of thunder
their eyes, on the raging war.
Who says it is easier to be younger?
Fathers no longer hope nor wonder,
drowning in bottles and wanting more.
Babies suppressing their hunger.
The world unable to escape this blunder,
forgetting what we swore.
Who says it is easier to be younger?
Children left to plunder,
asking what they were brought here for.
Babies suppressing their hunger.
Who says it is easier to be younger?

Teresa, a US citizen, is one of many millions of civilians indebted to the soldiers around the world. She is a freelancer, walking the road less traveled (wanting in the ability to fly). She lacks technical understanding of the military and hopes never to have the need. She wishes the soldiers a safe return.
