ALL FOOLS DAY

On the day of the fool
swimming in a sea of stupidity
there is a party next door
and I'm amazed how many fools attend
standing around in their wise disguise.
So here am I lost in time and space
the gun has gone off
and I'm in the race
and just like the hair on my face
will continue to grow
I'm tearing off into
the party afterglow.
A wash, a crap, and then a shave
all this before the day begins
washing me clean of the obvious visual sins.
Sometimes a fool has more wisdom
in their stupidity
than all the wondrous revelations
in serendipity.
I lean forward and the machine
switches off in mid song,
there is a silly expression on my face
what went wrong is anybody's guess.
My muse has run out of page
and the words pile up in damns of rage.
The skateboard kids
pick up their boards and attitudes
and adjust their off center lids
like their hero skateboard dudes.
The middle class sips
insipidly on their lattes
wrapped so tight
because they haven't smiled in days.
Their lips move
and their hands are in each other's lap
something to give a dog a bone.
They smile now
but show too many teeth
and their eyes betray
the morals of a horny thief.
I'm down to my last bite
of a pumpkin scone
and rattle the ice in my cup
to a Muddy Waters tune.
It's been interesting
I'm bound to say
to see how many people
are out
for
All Fools Day.
