SUNDAY MORNING SYMMETRY

The kettle boils
anxious for the Peruvian coffee oils
fair trade is the only way
to get my caffeine to start the day.

Barrie phones from far away
and we have a few laughs
these little calls
can make my day.

My iTunes confounds
with pieces of music and wondrous sounds.
Poetry from the sound tracks of the past
but then again nothing will ever last.

My laundry sits in a basket
and needs to be cleaned
before my nose
blows a gasket.

Gil Evens on the sound track
sweet, sweet, sweet
as the clarinet goes
tweet, tweet, tweet.

Any excuse not to get to work
even at the charge of being a lazy jerk.
The Lord of small tasks commands,
no matter who is playing in the bands.

The muse cares not for my temporary angst.
She commands the lines be written
no matter who will give thanks
or become besotted and smitten.

Is there a cup at the bottom of the pot
I’ll check but I guess not
in the everyday mystery of a
Sunday morning symmetry.
