SUCKING THE OXYGEN OUT OF THE ROOM

lunch with my old shark kicking buddy
raining hard enough to bounce
god nothing but silence and forty mile stares
and you think of all those times
when your very presence
sucked the oxygen out of the room
and the beauteous coffee server yawned
and you belch and release those toxic gasses
on the unsuspecting masses
unhappiness the evil twin of envy
and a secret smile from the resident
red haired amazon
as a wee sparrow of a woman fidgets
too impatient to wait
the tall one
spots her favourite table
and clip clumps over
to take charge
just as I run out of words
