REFLECTION

John-Ward Leighton: ©Copyright 2007 by John-Ward LeightonWho is that old man
starring at me?
Somehow I recognize him
at least as much as I can see.
I drown in the music
and all the passions of the past
they are all pale echoes
of things that didn’t last.
There are no encores in life
you play your part
and then you leave
all those words unsaid
all those loves unrequited
because face it
you’re dead.
Is there any life in the myth?
It’s like trying to remember a kiss
we pursue the buzz
and die for the bliss.
That old man was me
someone I did not want to see.
The young man behind my eyes
was jolted into a new direction
and a desperate poem
written on a
reflection.
