LIGHT FANTASTIC
And The Lady Laughed
What a day
and when the fog had burned away
and then the lady laughed
and my cappuccino steam
was a part of my waking dream
and the lady smiled
the tramp in smoker’s hell
went trolling through the butts
while the spoiled upper class sneers
and walks their mutts
and the lady grinned
I check my bag of negative game
in hope of a score
but its always the same
and I want more and more
and she knew I’d sinned.
the old man limps down the street
that could be me if I accept defeat
but I’m hale and hearty and quite elastic
and always ready to click
the light fantastic
and the lady gave a sly wink
someone dropped a metal lid
and then said damn just like a kid
and the lady is mine or so I think
so far I have run amuck
and tripped the light fantastic
with lady luck
we hold hands for a skate around the rink.
sunset
and it’s as good as it’s ever going to get
and I fondle my toys
both metal and plastic
while my mind dances
the
light fantastic
and in my clumsy mental gaffes
she spins away
and the lady laughs

Author’s Note: The two poems written at the same time, I know that this will seem a little confusing but that’s what was in my head at the time and that’s what was on the page.
