HOLD BACK THE DARK

Our day will come
and our
efforts to stop time
with our poetry
will face the test.
Were we poets
or just mere mortals
trying to
hold back the dark?
Was our song mere
bellows in the shower
our words mere echoes
or will men and women
sing the verses
one hundred years from now
and in their hearts
use our words
to
hold back the dark?
