A KITE EATING TREE

so there was me
looking out to sea
at the foot of
a kite eating tree

thinking about government
and in Buffalo NY four dead on the pavement
ahh, the carnage excused
in defence of the sacred Second Amendment

boys will be boys
they must have their deadly toys
and if you get caught in their deadly rampage
chalk it up to collateral damage

oh well it was a no news kind of day
twenty million Pakistanis are flooded out
but on a lazy summers day it seems like such a bother
to think about this crisis after all they are indeed the other

the first lady goes to Spain
and the right wingers think that’s a sin
but I ask you does it really make much difference
with the shape their country is in

I think they think
it would be real neat
to see the first lady and her kids
with tar balls on their feet

seventy five kilometres today
but the stubborn flub is determined to stay
and there is a who song ringing in my ears
why don’t you just fffffade away.

all this is just me
cooling off and looking out to sea
at the foot of
a kite eating tree.
