WAR’S SIREN SONG
Young boy set his soldiers on their stands
Preparing for a grandiose battle.
Imaginary hell for the greens against the tans
Can’t hear a plastic man’s death rattle.
With plastic gun we find him running through the woods
Emulating his big screen heroes.
Sorting out the evil from the good
Plastic corsairs downing plastic zeros.
What is it about war?
What is the attraction?
That knock on death’s door?
What makes him crave action?
Wars glory to blame?
A moth to the flame
Dancing with death
Could this be your last breath?
I think war is a drug
To those who have not been there.
An adventurer’s tug
Dragged into wars cruel snare.
Every school should teach a course
Call it “War 101”.
Pull out the truth, bare it to the source
Expose it to our daughters and our sons.
We know it is right
There are times we must fight.
Let them understand
Why they are called by this land.
To defend life and freedom
To stand tall when we need ‘em.
But don’t fall for the story
That war is all glory.
This truth stays the same
War is no damn game.
David’s stars and Christ’s crosses…
Documenting our losses
Young man how I’d like to see,
You setting plastic men to be,
Doctors, Teachers, Firefighters and Cops,
Statesmen, Diplomats bringing wars to a stop!
