TINKER TOYS

There was in that set of Tinker Toys,
A delight for girls as well as boys.
I built those contraptions that came to mind,
Most ran smooth ... but some would bump and grind.
The parts I lost along the way
Were always found another day.
From brothers and others there was hid,
That tall round can with a screw-on-lid.

One thoughtless day, I traded it off
For a cowboy set complete with trough.
How I miss that old set still today,
And those hours spent at serious play.
Though old like a yeast that will not leaven,
My mind still roams in Tinker Toy Heaven.
