Forrest Langley: Operation Iraqi FreedomForrest served in the US Army as gunner on Humvees in the Sunni ‘Triangle of Death’ in 2005, and experienced many vehicles being blown up under him. Wounded with Traumatic Brain Damage as a result of the second blast, he experienced four subsequent blasts. The last one, which he doesn’t remember, blew him out of the turret, ripping his 240B machine gun off the mount. The VA have recognized his disabilities and have rated him as 100% totally and permanently disabled, with the combined aggregate of his disabilities assessed at 400%.
Advised by the VA that the brain damage he suffers is permanent making rehabilitation impossible, Forrest started writing poetry in June 2007. He has now written several poems and believes writing is facilitating the rewiring of his brain, and is helping him to cope with the PTSD from he also suffers.
