THE MORNING TOUCH

I used to wake up
early,

worried
'bout the bills,

... the long hours,
and the foolishness
within my dreams.

I would touch
your silent sleep,

... place
my fingers in your hair.

Kiss you
gently,
... quietly.

I saw too much of death
to believe in the life that you
gave to me.

I am still afraid

... of losing you.

Time
cannot take it away.

The dark nights
... pain
and the speed of our days.

I awake,
... hold you,

and I dream of better days!
