THE NIGHT I THOUGHT OF HEAVEN ~ 1969
Storms crashing
and lightning
flashing
a two room apartment
and no money
to buy
tomorrow
2 AM
distant lightning
rumbling thunder
my Brothers remaining at war
in Vietnam
Worried
broke
smoking the last half
of the last
cigarette
Brain on fire
… and your face was asleep
and more beautiful
than all the paintings in the world
I just prayed
clumsy
tearful prayers
for those at war
and for us
the two of us
Diane
I heard an echo
not clear
just an echo from somewhere
long ago
saying
‘Trust In Love
Always!’
