PERHAPS IT WAS A GIFT
When the Cats screamed
and the swamp was bathed in gold,
and I knew nothing
of the ways of war.
… all the death was in the future
and I thought of it
as home.
I was a fool in a T-shirt
with a cigarette burning into my soul.
It takes a lifetime to hold someone.
It takes forever to cry.
