THE HUNTER
(from last night's dream)

He moves silently from shadow to shadow
Across packed hard frozen snow
He leaves no trace of his passage
Slipping into an open irrigation trench
He waits

In the chilling glow of dawn's first light
The target moves into his sight
He aims, exhales, and squeezes
Explosion in the barrel sends projectile
He repeats

Impact, the round splatters paint
Windscreen covered with the stain
Charging straight at the hunter
Hits the bank, lifts, hits a tree.
It flips

Fire Engine charges toward the hunter
Like his ancestors multiple shots fly
The large vehicle passes the brim
Hits the tree and it falls
Hitting House

Hunter slips away down a dry creek
At the river he boards a kayak
Vanishing on the ancient highway
The hunter gets away
Strike again
