A GILDED SILVER BOX

He stands tirelessly in a line
in his hands a silver box gilded fine
All the things he meant to do, it's too late.
For now he approaches Saint Peter's Gate.
He opens the box to find every letter he wrote;
a lifetime of sentiments in little notes.
Cards to Mom, Dad, friends, and Valentine
Filled with sentiments of love divine
Letters written to his wife while they're apart,
suffering from a closed yearning heart
Notes written after the divorce never sent
to a daughter, he lost and never met
Letters to family, friends, and lovers;
what is important is how we treat others.
