HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED

I was talking to a young mum
Who came from the United States
And after a little while
We were talking as if old mates

We got talking about society
And how very many things have changed
To bringing up her little boy
Gee it all seemed strange

In my day if you had a problem with someone
You'd give each other a clout
And end up by shaking hands
Because that was the way you worked things out.

Now days there are gangs of hoods
Who don't really give a damn
About people and their property
Just damaging as much of society as they can

When it comes to settling arguments
All they know is they must win
And are never ever satisfied
Until a coffin they put someone in

People are afraid to go out alone
For fear of being attacked
And if they don't give them what they want
With a knife they are surely hacked

What is the Government doing?
To stop this type of crime
For the people living in the community
They seem to be running out of time

Our country used to be such a lovely place
Where people were free to wander
But now they live behind closed doors
Just left to sit and ponder

What is the problem with our world?
What's caused it to go wrong?
It's filled with so much doom and gloom
There's no reason to sing a song

Our only hope is to turn it around
To bring back the laughter and song
And again teach our children
The difference between right and wrong
