WHAT AM I THEN?
What am I then? I’m just another man,
small in stature lacking youth and fire,
clinging yet to all the youth I can,
that something of my talent will transpire.
Where do I fit where I did not fit before,
I am more ugly than my youth took lease,
and for myself I opened not a door,
and as I age my future will decrease.
I have no purpose, yet to make it known,
if only to advise a willing mind,
that one can’t live forever and can’t own
a single thing God given God defined.
For of thy service to sweet life it’s true,
that what is done is always done by you.
