TOMORROW’S DAWN

You cannot name one wrong I’ve offered you,
For I’ve but offered aid and love and care.
Nor can you slander that, that which I do,
For I have asked for nought that is unfair.
God, and you and I, know what is true,
(and one other lurking in the shade)
Such knowledge does not require proof,
The sheets were soiled before the bed was made.
Tomorrow’s dawn will bring another sun,
The moon at dusk will wait for it to fade;
Then the twilight of your life will come,
That you must sleep in the rumpled bed you’ve made.
Ah! You will sleep with the memories of your men,
For they’ll not come to love you once again.
