TO LOVE YOU TRUE

To love you true I’d seek no response,
That satisfies the selfish part of me,
For then your love would retreat at once,
And from my bondage I’d be set free.
I love you not that you must love me too,
Tis only you who can make that choice,
Tis not for self that you or I pursue,
That in consequence unites us as one voice.
Let not demand confuse love with desire,
Desire requires no lasting truth nor trust,
Though by such victory true love may transpire,
Without it being believed to be a must.
Such natural traits are essential for a morrow,
Or yet in harsh reality cause our sorrow.
