THE BROWNIE OF SNAEFELL

In the Isle of Man a farmer befriended a brownie,
(Who are different from fairies you know)
They are clumsy hairy legged little Goblins,
Good natured, but stupid though!
He offered to bring the sheep down from Snaefell Mountain,
From the wintery snows that were beginning to fall.
But he spent most of the day just shouting,
Chasing a little ram that wouldn’t cooperate at all.
“But I don’t have a little Ram.” said the farmer,
Who went outside to check on his herd
Where he saw a tired little hare, now calmer,
Among the flock looking quite absurd!
There is a moral of course to this story,
For among people it has often occurred.
