SELF WORSHIP

Who can dethrone you, oh God up above,
Except they who do claim Tis you whom they love?
For though their words are well meaning, their actions deny,
For what is sweet to the ear is quite sour to the eye.
Tis the doing that is different to the words that they preach,
For it takes more momentum than is found in a speech
To deliver Your promise; Your good plans for the Earth,
Based on the true value of what we mortals are worth.
Oh, they talk and they worship, and righteously claim
That they set the examples in your powerful name.
Yet they do not look inward to discover themselves,
Losing sight of the love that their indifference repels.
So wrapped up in themselves they see not their own wrong,
And really are strangers where they think they belong.
