OURSELVES
We are told we are not ourselves from birth,
Brainwashed and forced to fit another’s view,
Told who to worship and who rules the Earth,
How to think and live and what to do.
We must conform if we are to advance,
Writing verses that please the status quo,
Political correctness, leaving nothing to chance,
Controlled and directed wherever we go.
There is no golden age and it will not matter,
No one cares if you if you rebuke them or not,
Old age leaves only the myth of it to shatter,
That there is time left to defy and to plot.
I told my Mother when I was as young as nine,
That none of what I am and own will be mine.
