MEMORIES OF MOTHER

I oft recall her cold dead face,
For it has only been awhile,
Since Mother died in all her Grace,
And took from me her smile.

One year has passed without her here,
How changed our lives have been,
And still I’m stunned that one so dear,
Should so cruelly be demeaned.

‘Tis not her death which breaks my heart,
But the suffering she knew in life,
Her death was but the tranquil part,
That saved her from more strife.

God keep her safe where ‘ere she sleeps,
If she doth sleep at all,
As we in loving sadness weep
As the fond memories we recall

Author’s Note: My Mother died last year on June 29th, one day after my Fathers birthday. There has been no sign, no presence, and no communication… just the hard, cold reality that she is dead.
